Welcome to Business Bites! Our biweekly short form newsletter. This is a supplemental email to the regular Spotlight newsletter. Every other Monday we will link to 3-5 business related news stories and give our short thoughts on each. Its a great way to stay informed on the world of business.


8.5 million Windows devices were affected globally on Friday leading to the grounding of several major airlines, and over 2,500 flights being canceled.
The system disruption was the result of a sensor configuration update performed by Cybersecruity company CrowdStrike to their Falcon platform. Airlines were not the only ones experiencing issues, broadcasters and businesses were also affected, as well as 911 services in several states, medical facilities and many major hospitals. People as far as Australia and New Zealand also reported being unable to log into their bank accounts.
The outage was resolved quickly, however the ripple affects of the disruption will linger.

Paris businesses suffering due in part to the Olympics coming July 26th

Restaurants, clubs, bars and shops in the "city of light" are facing an "unprecedented slump" ahead of the summer Olympics. Heavy security measures being implemented are getting blamed, as well as recent poor weather, Political stressors and inflation.
Many small business face closing permanently. Security barriers being placed around the city and marring otherwise picturesque streets are also being blamed for the downturn in profits.
Unions have expressed the need for better communication ahead of the security implementation. Claiming they were unable to plan around the security measures without proper information.
They are insisting on swift compensation
to make up for the "disastrous economic consequences" in regards to the changes.

Hawaii small business aids family in home restoration

As Hawaiian homeowners face skyrocketing insurance rates a family found themselves paying double their previous hurricane and fire insurance rates.
An elderly veteran homeowner was faced with soon to be canceled insurance due to the dilapidated state of his home. The homeowner was soon to be moved to a care home but needed to be able to rent his current property in order to pay for the care.
Donovan Morgan of Softwash Hawaii stepped in and helped him out at no cost.
The services would have reached the thousands otherwise. A true act of Aloha.
